“It’s better to ask for the Earth than to take it” JB Priestley (An Inspector Calls)

Many of us day to day are struggling and lack the confidence to either believe in ourselves or ask for help. Asking for help / guidance or support isn’t a weakness, it shows a great inner strength in knowing when you need someone else. But why don’t we ask for help? Society doesn’t allow for people to respect when others need help and it creates low self-esteem through computer enhanced, poor media coverage.

Part of this quote also makes me question why we don’t showcase ourselves more often. If nothing comes of it then that’s OK, the main part is that we’ve tried, however most of the time we are scared to take that step. Why should we be afraid to go for the stars? It’s our lives and we need to live it! The above quote is a socialist belief from the author and one I frequently see day to day. There are people who just expect stuff in their lives and don’t think about their responsibility to others which is OK as that’s their own beliefs, but this isn’t me. I want to teach my boys to be who they want to be - at the minute it's the likes of iron man, a fireman or a king. I don't ever want to tarnish their belief in themselves and have them think that they aren't capable or good enough. I want them to foster a growth mindset in them both where they reach for the stars because nothing is out of their reach.

People are encased in their own lives and very rarely look outside, whilst I’m trying to improve the lives of me and my little family, I also take note of others around me, helping others and understanding the impact I may have on others. It’s this final one that is the most vital.

Society has created an atmosphere where people are negatively affected by others, but the effectors are oblivious. They do not see or understand the harm, upset or destruction they may have caused for someone else as they are blinkered to their own lives.

I’m opening my eyes up more and beginning to take note of the influences/ thoughts I may create, along with the impact I have as a human being on the planet and I want to prevent being seen as “taking the Earth” because it isn't ours to take.
