I`m not going to lie, life with popcorn up until my introduction to Portlebay consisted of toffee flavoured popcorn full of additives, boat loads of sugar and artificial flavour & preservatives. Very boring eh?
Portlebay Popcorn uses Kracklecorn which is hand popped in Devon. They then add raw cane sugar just as the grains are popping to give a more brittle, crunchy texture. Depending on the flavour they then either add a little sea salt or their specially developed natural seasonings to tantalise taste buds.
The range is constantly being expanded. Their current flavour range includes: sea salted, sweet & salty, wasabi & sweet ginger, chilli & lime, bacon & maple syrup, sweet thai sriracha, lemon sherbet, cinnamon swirl, very berry and cappucino. Reeling this list of delectable flavours makes my mouth water - never mind when I taste tested a variety of these!
I cannot decide between 2 flavours as my most favourite. Sweet & salty is a range which i didnt think would appeal to me, but having tasted this range I have been very much persuaded otherwise. The constant change of taste buds being appeased between the sweet and salty popcorn provided an experience of popcorn that opened my eyes up to trying new flavours. My other favourite flavour is the cinnamon swirl. The cinnamon sweetness tackles any sugar cravings whilst being action packed with flavour. I would choose this flavour over the 'old' toffee style any day of the week.
For a savoury alternative to crisps, the chilli & lime flavour is a fantastic range. The lime subtly cuts through the chilli flavour to provide a mild heat with the crunch of every popcorn piece. This flavour was even liked my my two little boys!

I admire how this popcorn is hand popped and with the flavours being intricately added to create such flavoursome packets which provides your tastebuds with an explosion of natural seasonings. My own relationship with popcorn has changed, I no longer eat the synthetic toffee kind and I will not be prevented from experimenting with new flavours. I have been completely blown away by the depth of flavour by Portlebay popcorn and I cant wait to see what new ranges they bring out next!
